As adherence to deemed to satisfy energy efficiency provisions in the BCA gets more complex, new research conducted by CSR Hebel has established clarity around the application of different flooring systems to meet these requirements.
This research was conducted on suspended ground flooring systems and compared the heating and cooling loads of Hebel’s autoclaved aerated concrete PowerFloor to the commonly used particleboard floors with foil. The research found that on average PowerFloor used 18.4% less energy to heat the building in a location like Brisbane compared to particleboard with foil, while using 6.4% less energy to cool the building in a location like Canberra compared to particleboard with foil.*
All research, administered by independent auditor Ecospecifier Pty Ltd using the Accurate simulation models, confirmed PowerFloor to be a significantly superior thermal product than particleboard for suspended flooring, adding to meet BCA deemed to satisfy provisions.
Hebel’s PowerFloor is sold as a complete flooring solution for one and two storey double brick and block homes, offering thermal performance and also acoustic benefits which are particularly important for buffering noise transference between ground and first floors. The unique benefits of acoustic and thermal insulation along with thermal mass make it an ideal solution where comfort and energy efficiency are a priority.
Hebel PowerFloor steel reinforced panels are easily installed over timber or steel joists to give an excellent base for just about any floor covering. Panel lengths are designed to suit standard joist spacing which means there is minimal wastage on site. Quick to install, Hebel PowerFloor allows other trades to follow in 24 hours and is not affected by weather during installation.
A Good Choice
All of CSR Hebel’s products and systems have been awarded the Good Environmental Choice Australia Label (GECA). To qualify for the GECA endorsement, Hebel products and systems were assessed against the GECA 8-2005 Environmentally Innovative Products Standard. The assessment found Hebel products and systems have significantly reduced environmental loads of at least 30 per cent over their lifecycle.
